★★★★★A great book for the winter months, be it Christmas or the Solstice.

The Magical Midwinter Star, paperback edition

Hard to improve on the previous two, but my granddaughter (8) thinks this is the best so far and I agree. The books don't fall into the trap of stories about cute little animals, but instead combine nature, mythology, adventure and fun with a smattering of Gaelic thrown in. Can't wait for book 4

The Tree With A Golden Heart, paperback 2nd (revised) edition

Second book about Algy read avidly by my 8 year old granddaughter, followed by me and now her grandfather! The characters are delightful and the descriptions of the scenery take us back to that wonderful part of Scotland. A book to appeal to all ages, to read quietly or aloud.

★★★★★Fabulous

A Surprisingly Fluffy Bird, paperback edition

I read the first of Algy’s adventures with my two sons and we thought it was fabulous. These are their thoughts:

Robert, 9: It was very interesting and there were lots of nice poems in the book. My favourite character was Algy because he sang good songs and he was friendly and nice to the other characters. It was a good setting for the story because I like beaches.

Andrew, 8: Algy is one of my favourite books and it was a great story because it was very adventurous. I liked the poem because it was very long and it was fun to read. I liked the animals in it. My favourite character is Ruaridh because he was nice to Algy.
